New World Server Transfers Delayed Till Next Week, Cites A Desire To Not Disrupt ‘Peak Play Period’

If you’re one of the many thousands of players waiting to transfer to a server where your friends are playing New World, you’ll be waiting a little longer. Amazon announced late Friday that the decision to delay the service has been made in order to not disrupt its “peak play period.”

The post was made on the forums where New World developer Kay explained the deicision. Server transfers have been in the works since the MMO released three weeks ago to large queue times and full servers, peaking at over 900K players concurrently trying to explore Aeternum, many which were stuck in queues. The server transfers are going to be free to every player who wants to avail themselves of the transfer for one reason or another, the prevailing one being to finally play the MMO with their friend group.

“We have the final pieces of the server transfer system tested and ready to go, but we are making a difficult decision to hold it until next week,” New World developer Kay has stated on the official game forums.  “This was a balance call between honoring a date we told you to expect, versus the disruption of a deployment during a peak play period (the weekend).”

According to Amazon, the server transfer process was worked on “non-stop every day,” but with the weekend approaching and it’s safe to say the servers will be popping with players as wars are declared and people are off work, the team didn’t want to cause any downtime as it approached.

As far as when server transfers will be available, no exact date was given next week – nor do we have a clear idea on how exactly server transfers will work. New World’s dev team mentions in the post that there will be “several communications” regarding how the transfers will be rolling out as well as what they are calling a deep dive into what the Amazon Games team has “learned these past couple of weeks.”
