Description

Blizzard has announced today that they are forming the World of Warcraft Community Council, a player council to help the Warcraft team gather feedback from its community. This is with the backdrop of the team trying to make World of Warcraft a more inclusive and inviting space in-game, with the team scrubbing less-than-ideal references throughout Azeroth the past few months.

This type of thing is normal in MMORPGs, with one prominent example being EVE Online’s Council of Stellar Management. Blizzard is aiming to create a player council where the team can get direct feedback from players on a wide range of topics to help make WoW and the community better over time.

“The World of Warcraft community is second to none with the passion, love, and excitement you all show to the game. Player feedback impacts all aspects of the game, and with such a wide range of opinions, playstyles, and interests out there, gathering and understanding feedback is more important than ever.

To help further our efforts in this area, we’re introducing the WoW Community Council. This program will add another venue for communication between players and WoW developers. Our goal is to gather more detailed feedback on all aspects of World of Warcraft from players around the world with a wide range of backgrounds and interests.”

As such, Blizzard is asking interested players to sign up to potentiall participate in the council. Unlike EVE Online’s CSM, though, World of Warcraft’s Player Council won’t be voted on by the players, but rather chosen by the Warcraft team. The Council itself will be able to post in a forum that is visible to everyone interested in following the discourse, and discussions with Blizzard team members pertaining to that public board will be, well, public.

A private board will also be set up for direct interaction between Blizzard and the council members, as well as potential separate conversations between the council and Blizzard team members will occur.

Since the goal is to gather information from the widest range possible of players in Azeroth, these council positions will only be held for a year, and the Warcraft team will open it back up to the public.
